The program is designed to provide those with disabilities to aid them in gaining, regaining or retaining competitive employment. The goal is for the employment to be integrated within a typical work setting with colleagues with and without disabilities.
You may be eligible for VR services if you meet all of the following requirements:
- You have a physical or mental impairment;
- Your physical or mental impairment constitutes or results in a substantial impediment to employment;
- You require VR services in order to prepare for, secure, retain, or regain employment; and
- You can benefit from the provision of VR services in terms of achieving an employment outcome.

A VR counselor will document your disability and confirm you are eligible for services. Be sure to bring any medical records, assessments or evaluations that verify your disability. A state ID or Driver’s license and Social Security card are also required. Be sure to share your education, work experience and your career goals. Don’t be afraid to dream big.
Once you are determined to be eligible you will meet with VR staff to create an individualized plan for employment. Be sure to be flexible and make sure you keep communicating with your VR counselor. It may take time but you will be on your way to finding competitive employment!
